CONTEENUA COMPANION · DESKTOP APP

Use your own ChatGPT to code on your own computer from Conteenua.

Conteenua Companion connects repositories you approve on your computer with the Use your own AI coding experience in Conteenua web and mobile. Choose the installer for your operating system below.

CHOOSE THE PATH THAT FITS THE WORK

Direct and manual work stays simple. AI is opt-in.

Conteenua keeps these paths separate so choosing one does not silently spend credits or switch providers.

Direct / manual

0 AI credits

Write notes, manage Context, and write or schedule your own social content directly. These everyday actions do not require Conteenua AI credits.

Use your own AI

0 Conteenua AI credits

Companion connects your approved local repositories to a normal ChatGPT conversation. It uses the ChatGPT account you already have and never falls through to Conteenua’s paid executor.

Use GitHub Context when you want Conteenua to run the hosted coding workflow, verify the result, and return it as Ready to apply with Apply, Ask for changes, and Undo.

REQUIREMENTS

What you need before local coding can turn on.

  • A Conteenua account, signed in on Companion and the Conteenua web or mobile app.
  • A ChatGPT account or workspace that exposes Developer mode and writable MCP App tools.
  • A local repository folder you explicitly approve in Companion.
  • A supported Windows 10/11, macOS 15 or later, or Linux desktop environment. Choose the matching processor type and Linux package below.

Conteenua checks provider capability at runtime. If writable ChatGPT tools are unavailable, local coding stays disabled and no Conteenua AI credits are charged.

SETUP

Connect once, then choose the computer and project from Conteenua.

  1. 1Install and open Conteenua Companion, then sign in with the same Conteenua account you use on web or mobile.
  2. 2Add the local project folders you want to use. Picking a folder is what grants that approved-root permission.
  3. 3Add the Conteenua Companion Chrome extension in the same Chrome profile you use for ChatGPT.
  4. 4Leave Stable OpenAI tunnel (recommended) selected, create a persistent MCP tunnel and a restricted tunnel API key with Tunnels: Read + Use, then save them in Companion and connect local tools.
  5. 5In ChatGPT, enable Developer mode under Settings → Security and login.
  6. 6Open ChatGPT Plugins and choose Add → Create MCP App. Do not choose Create plugin; that opens Plugin Creator and is not the tunnel setup path.
  7. 7Name the MCP App Conteenua Companion Core.
  8. 8Choose Tunnel, select the same persistent tunnel, choose No Auth, accept the developer warning, and create the MCP App.
  9. 9In a normal ChatGPT conversation, enable Conteenua Companion Core and run one harmless local tool against an approved project.
  10. 10Return to Companion and confirm the extension, Core connector, and local tool verification all show ready.

Temporary fallback

If you do not configure the persistent OpenAI tunnel, Companion can use a verified Cloudflare quick tunnel for testing. Its public URL can change after Companion restarts, so a ChatGPT app created with Server URL mode may need to be refreshed or recreated.

PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS

The local computer stays the trust boundary.

Stays on your computer by default

  • Repository files and local filesystem paths
  • Shell environment, local processes, and full terminal output
  • ChatGPT browser credentials, cookies, and browser profile data
  • Operating-system credentials and stored tunnel key

Conteenua cloud receives remote-control metadata

  • Paired device identity, platform, online state, and project display metadata
  • Remote instructions you write in Conteenua
  • Session/provider status and explicit approval decisions
  • Bounded safe activity summaries such as “ChatGPT started working” or “Using exec_command”

Model-facing file tools are limited to folders you approve. Terminal commands run as your logged-in operating-system user, so command execution is a separate permission and higher-risk actions can require approval.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Most setup problems point to one boundary.

Computer is offline in Conteenua

Keep Companion open, confirm you signed into the same Conteenua account, and check that the computer can make its outbound connection. No inbound router port is required for Conteenua remote control.

ChatGPT tools are unavailable

Confirm Developer mode is available in that ChatGPT workspace and the Companion Core app exposes writable local tools. If the account does not support them, Conteenua keeps Start coding disabled rather than switching to Codex or Conteenua AI.

Stable tunnel will not become ready

Recheck the persistent tunnel ID and restricted tunnel API key, save the connector again, then reconnect local tools. Companion only reports ready after the connector is actually reachable.

Temporary Server URL stopped working

A Cloudflare quick-tunnel URL can rotate after restart. Copy the new verified URL and refresh or recreate the ChatGPT MCP App that used Server URL mode.

Project does not appear

Approve the folder from the Companion running on that computer. Selecting a cloud project cannot widen local folder access.

DOWNLOADS AND CHECKSUMS

Choose a direct download for your computer.

Each button downloads the matching installer directly. For Linux, choose AppImage for a portable package or DEB for Debian and Ubuntu. The checksum manifest is available below.

Windows checksum

Run this in PowerShell from the folder containing the installer, then compare the 64-character hash with the line for the same filename in SHA256SUMS.txt:

Get-FileHash .\Conteenua-Companion-Setup-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256

On macOS or Linux, use shasum -a 256 <filename> (or sha256sum <filename> where available) and compare it to the same release manifest.

SHA256SUMS.txt

Once Companion is ready, coding starts from Conteenua.

Choose Use your own AI, select the connected computer and approved project, write the instruction, and start the normal ChatGPT session. You can follow up, review activity, approve or deny gated actions, pause, resume, stop, or open ChatGPT directly.
